WHAT HAPPENED?
The online CoC password reset form was not successfully changing passwords.
WHEN DID IT HAPPEN?
Beginning at approximately 10:00 PM on Thursday, January 5, until 11:00 AM on Monday, January 9, 2017.
WHY DID IT HAPPEN?
During our regular patching window (see https://support.cc.gatech.edu/alerts/unix-infrastructure-patching for details), a newer version of OpenSSL was installed on the user account database server that caused a conflict with secure connections to the authentication server. This caused the connection to fail which resulted in account passwords changed through the CoC online password reset form to remain unchanged even though the form may have reported a successful password change.
WHO WAS AFFECTED?
CoC account holders who attempted to change their account password during the specified time.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Any affected CoC user should please retry the online password reset form.
HAS THE ISSUE BEEN RESOLVED?
Yes. TSO installed a compatible version of OpenSSL and connections between the servers were once again successful.
